Major in Glory

By Sidharth Mohandas

In Exodus 33:18, Moses says to the Lord, “Now show me Your glory”. People often associate the glory of God with light, clouds, and so forth. However, the Hebrew word used for glory in this verse is kabot, which literally means “the heaviest weight”. So Moses was actually asking the Lord, “show me the heaviest and most important thing about You”.

It’s interesting what the Lord shows Moses in response to his request… “And He passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, ‘The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in goodness and faithfulness, maintaining goodness to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.’” (Exodus 34:6-7)

I meditated on this passage, and the word that came to mind was “love”. God was showing Moses that the most profound thing about Him was love. Said simple, God is love. His glory is His love.

Do you remember Belshazzar? Just in case you don’t, he was an arrogant and merciless king that we read of in the book of Daniel. The book of Daniel records an instance where a supernatural inscription on a wall took place, giving the king that witnessed the event quite a scare. Just three words were written on the wall: Mene, Tekel and Parsin. Out of which Tekel in Aramaic means “you have been weighed on the scales and found wanting”.

If God were to weigh us today, would we be found wanting? Are we walking in the love of God? You may have the blessing of spiritual gifts in your life, but in God’s measuring scale, if you don’t have love, you amount to nothing. (1 Corinthians 13)

I encourage you to examine your life today… if you have strayed from the way of love, take a step and make the decision to walk in love so that you may display the glory of God through your life.

  1. More Than a Feeling

    Hi Siddarth,

You commented on my blog back in March and it’s taken me until now to tell you what an awesome blog you have. I’ve been reading your posts and you’re such an inspiration to me. Especially your testimony of becoming a Christian, how you received the gift of tongues, and how you prayed over your aunt’s (I think) house.

My husband and his family are not Christian and I was raised as a Christian. Your site has reaffirmed to me, as it did today, so many things that God has been teaching me. Check out my last post… your post today is similar to what God is teaching me.

    God Bless.

    Vanessa

P.S. May I add you to my blog roll?
