It’s all about You!

Most people see just arrogance and haughtiness as pride, but they fail to realize that there’s another side to pride and that is low-esteem and self-consciousness. Some of us are so focused on ourselves that all we think is what others may think about us or what they’re opinions are about what we had to say. I’m not excluded from this! I know how I have spent hours and sometimes even days over why someone said something or didn’t say something to me. Why did he ignore me? Does she think less of me? Does he look down on me? Did they laugh at me? Are they staring at me? What are they going to say about me? Do you see how self-centered we can be?

I have heard so many gifted singers say things like, “Oh, I’m not a very good singer.” Many may think the person is being very humble, but in God’s eyes that is nothing but false humility. Those gifts and talents that we have came from Him, how dare we say they’re not good! Again this happens because our focus is on ourselves rather than on God and His works and thus the outcome is distorted humility,

The only way out of this is to shift our focus from “self” to God. Spend time thinking about God and how good He is. Some people spend days whining over their mistakes and sins, now that’s no humility! When the Israelites realized that they had sinned against the Lord, they started weeping and mourning. But then look what Nehemiah tells them, “Do not weep or mourn, for the joy of the Lord is your strength” [Nehemiah 8:10]. If you have failed the Lord, don’t lie down there crying over it, get up and joy in Him. This brings true strength.

Let your life be all about Him, whether you stand or fall- about His goodness, His faithfulness, His greatness, His power… As the song goes, “It’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus”
