It is pretty funny, when we come across a term like deception, the first thought that comes to our minds can be pretty strange. We often think we are too smart to be outsmarted and so a message such as one on deception is for that poor ol’ friend of mine. I think it is at this point that if we are to seriously consider deception we need to first rebuke that postman spirit of ours.
So why then do we need to consider deception? What makes this seemingly simple subject so important? God Almighty has called us for a life much superior to that of our own. We are called to walk in the life of His Son our precious Lord Jesus Christ. We can walk in that life only when we are connected to and partake of Him (Fellowship). Only then does that life flow into us and through us so that we can fulfill God’s purpose for our lives. This life touches all who are around us and that means that it does great harm to all the death and sickness around us. Sounds familiar?!! Oh! We are in uncharted waters now, disrupting the work of satan. Therefore we see that satan does everything possible to hinder our fellowship with the Lord. There is nothing he can do about your relationship because God has made you a son and that doesn’t change no matter what happens. Satan tries to hinder our access so that we are rendered powerless against all that he is doing around us.
Like Sidharth mentioned in the Scheme of intimidation, satan is not a figment of our imagination. I really like the way satan is potrayed in the movie ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’. Not like an ugly witch but a very beautiful creature who deceives Edmond. The Bible says that God made satan to be the most beautiful creature, which makes him lethal for his most potent weapon of them all ‘Deception‘. It is this that he unleashes to prevent us from knowing access our Father and hence living from this reality. Only when we start overcoming deception can the things of God change from being a belief system to a reality. If you don’t deal with deception, the devil takes advantage of you being silent. It also means we are ignoring the truth.
Okay, so this topic of deception is important, what then do I do to overcome deception. Alright, One of the most important things that we need to realize to protect ourselves is that fact that we can be deceived. Come on think about it, you know when you are being tempted, you know when you are being accused but when you am being deceived…When you are being deceived you have your focus on the wrong things or your attention is not where it is supposed to be. But praise God that when the bible warns against being deceived it also gives us light regarding how to stay clear of deception.
When satan came into the Garden of Eden to deceive he did not come in with a sword he came in talking. So we see the number one way in which satan deceives “HE TALKS”. We play right into his hands when we sit at his feet and listen to all that he has to say, telling yourself “Mama told me not to interrupt”. BUT MY DEAR FRIENDS how many of you realize that we are in a war, we ain’t warring against no clown or a two horned imp. He ain’t got no power but he is looking around for people whom he can convince that he has power. Are you going to be one of those simpletons? Then it is time that you started actively guarding against deception so that you are not fooled out of what you have, that too into someone who has been stripped off his powers on the cross.
Keys to overcome Deception:
- Never ever allow the devil to talk (through yourself, through the world, through media…) and sit quietly listening. Always challenge it from the Word of God. For example, you are very “concerned” (not worried) about a particular sickness (or any situation) thoughts pace inside you of what the doctors said, what Wikipedia said about it, how many people who had the sickness, believed God and die. Your response: BUT GOD HAS HEALED ALL MY SICKNESSES. Read Psalm 3 on how David rejected things that were being said about him and said But GOD…
- Don’t let satan’s voice be your voice. Don’t just think but open your mouth and talk ALOUD the WORD OF THE LORD using your faith.
- You cannot overcome deception by being sincere or deciding that you don’t want to be deceived. Sound doctrine is the antidote.
- Don’t just act on anything, even a prophetic word, before humbly and honestly taking it before the Lord.
- Expect the Lord to hear you, lead you and surround you with all your heart (Why?? because you belong to Jesus!).

Amen – preach it bro!
