Sweden is the fourth largest country in Europe, with mainly flat or rolling lowlands in the central and eastern regions and mountains in the western part. The area we know today as Sweden was home to Stone Age settlers. Pre-history period of Sweden came to an end in the 8th century BC and was followed by the ‘Viking’ age. The first historical mention of Sweden as a political entity can be traced back to the 11th century. The period from 8th to 12th century BC also witnessed the Christianization of Scandinavian countries. During the middle ages there was a strong influence of German culture and in the eighteenth century there was an influence of French culture.
Today, Sweden is a capitalistic country with a skilled labor force and a high standard of living complemented by extensive welfare benefits. In terms of per capita GDP, Sweden is ranked 26th in the world. The economy is bent towards foreign trade with timber, hydro power, and iron ore as the key resources base. Until 2008, the economy was on a sustained upswing but in 2009 became subject to the banking credit crisis and the government had to step in with rescue packages for the banking sector.
Pray that the Lord moves the hearts of the people in Sweden to receive His love. Pray for more opportunities for believers to witness about Jesus.
