Some years back as I was traveling with my friend he shared with me how he was having horrible nightmares in a stretch after he had moved out from the hostel to a house outside. He said the first day he had a dream where is mother was tortured, the second day he had a dream of his sister being tied down and being tortured and abused, and this went on for couple of days. He said he was intimidated by these and didn’t know what to do. I told my friend that these dreams were brought about by demons. I didn’t know if my friend did believe in demons even though he was a believer in Christ. That evening before he was about to leave to this house, I stopped him and asked him if he’d like me to pray with him, to which he agreed. I prayed something like this:

“Lord I come to You in the name of Jesus. You have given me authority to trample over snakes and scorpions and over all the powers of darkness [Luke 10: 19]. You said in Your Word that whatsoever I bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever I loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven [Matthew 16: 18] . Lord, I bind these demons that is bothering my friend in Your name. I pray that Your peace rest on that house, and that my friend will have a good nights sleep without any bad dreams. Amen”.

And the result…my friend never had that dream again! Hallelu YAH!

Dear friends, Jesus has given us the keys that can lock the powers of darkness and unlock His power. Demonic activities and strongholds can be arrested by the authority that is available to us in His majestic name.

I’m also reminded of a move of God that is sweeping the town of Kottayam here in Kerala. Pastor Matthew Kuruvilla was called by God to start The Heavenly Feast in Kottayam in the year 1998. A year later Pastor Matthew who is also known as Brother Thangu was instructed by the Holy Spirit to go to a high place in Kottayam and bind the strong-man of the city that prevented revival from hitting the town. From the very next week they saw a breakthrough… in what was just a medium church with few members, it grew into a mammoth gathering with more than 15,000 people gather together to worship the Lord every week.

Do you find resistance in the spirit realm hindering something that you know is God’s will from being manifested in the physical? Do you see the operation of demonic forces in your life and you don’t seem to break through ? Remember, my friend, God’s authority is absolute and sovereign and Scripture declares to us that He has imparted the same authority to you and me to bind and loose the activity of satan. Submit to God today and resist the powers of darkness, and they will flee.

Answering the devil with what God has said is something the Lord Himself demonstrated when He was tempted by satan in the wilderness [Matthew 4:4-8]. And the main reason why people fail here and let satan defeat them is because they simply aren’t CONVINCED about what God has said.

I heard a man of God relate his struggle with sickness. He knew well within him that it was God’s will for him to be healed and so he boldly answered satan with what God had said about healing and health. But then like how most of us have faced, his mind was being bombarded with doubt. He felt helpless, but he kept on saying what God had said. However, when depression seeped in, the Lord gave him a vision where he saw a demon speaking words of doubts and lies into his ears: “It isn’t God’s will to heal you”, “Remember that person who was a strong believer and he died with cancer?”…but then he also saw that each time he confessed God’s Word, a sword of light came out of his mouth and backed away the demon. He noticed that the demon kept coming back to him and that he needed to stand firm and persist in the Word.

Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.

Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset--rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world.[1 Peter 5:8-9, AMP]

Remember Jesus didn’t stop giving the devil the Word the first and second time he came back to him. He stood firm in the Word till the devil backed away. Again the Lord’s word for you today: “Withstand satan and be firm in the faith”

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. [Ephesians 6: 13-17]

There is just one place in the armor that offers no protection- and that is our back. The message the Lord has for us is: “Never turn back in fear or you will be vulnerable to the enemies attack and will lose”.

The most powerful weapon the enemy has that can pull you down is “fear”. Now, the original meaning of “fear” is “to run away from”. Joyce Meyer in her book “Do it afraid!” relates that every human being will “feel” fear, and the bible never tells us not to “feel” fear, but tells us not to be afraid and that simply means not to run away when faced with something that causes fear.

Some years back I was called to present a paper on Diabetes and those who came to listen were quite unruly. I felt fearful and I asked the Lord to take away the fear but nothing happened. Prayerfully, I stepped onto the platform to present the paper…and to my surprise, the moment I stepped onto the stage, the fear that I felt disappeared and I presented the paper as bold as a lion. In fact, I had people come and tell me that the presentation was very good.

If you are facing some task that seems to scare the life out of you, I encourage you to press on with the help of the Lord. Do not turn your back on the devil, he will defeat you.
